Can a new transmission make for a better vacation?

Can a new transmission in the 2020 Nissan Titan PRO-4X make for a better boating vacation trip? Let’s find out! Two years ago I took at 2018 Titan PRO-4X on a lake trip, towing a 6,000 lbs ski boat/trailer. The older truck had a 7-speed automatic. The new 2020 truck still has basically the same 5.6-liter gas V8 engine, but a whole new 9-speed transmission. Does this mean a more relaxing towing experience and better fuel efficiency?

The big V8 engine can now produce more power with premium octane fuel. The maximum rating is 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. I am using premium 91-octane fuel for this trip for best towing performance.

Indeed, the new transmission is very smooth. The grade-shifting on the downhill was effective in slowing down the truck and trailer. In the end, I did get a better MPG result when towing with the family. In the end, the verdict is – yes, the 2020 Titan is a better vacation towing truck than before!
