The Plaid model should be the ultra heavy duty model.

When the Tesla Cybertruck reaches the market in one for or another, will it have a high-performance Plaid model? What does it mean? Elon Musk made a statement in a tweet yesterday saying “Plaid Cybertruck is what I will drive”.

In Tesla speak, Plaid is the highest performance model. For example, Tesla has been developing a testing a Plaid Model S sedan at the Nurburgring. The Plaid edition of the Models S is said to utilize a tri-motor system. Three electric motors for maximum punch. The Plaid model is not currently on sale. Tesla Model S can be currently ordered in a Performance model with Ludicrous mode. Yes, Tesla thrives on references and puns from the Spaceballs movie.

What does it mean for the Cybertruck pickup? Will a Plaid Cybertruck simply be the Tri-motor model they announced last year with a capability to do a 0-60 MPH in 2.9-seconds? Elon Musk did not elaborate on this.

I suggest have the Plaid Cybertruck be the one that can haul and tow the most weight. It can be a special ultra heavy duty version of the truck. Having a truck that accelerates to 60 MPH in a blink of an eye is good, but a truck need to do some useful hauling/towing work.

Tesla website still says that the Cybertruck Tri-motor will be capable of towing 14,000+ lbs and have a ranger of 500+ miles. The website still says to expect the Cybertruck Tri-motor to go on sale in “late 2021”. It’s unclear if the virus shutdowns have slowed down the Cybertruck release schedule.
