Perhaps it’s time to redesign the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra?

Our time with these trucks has shown them to be remarkably solid and capable. We even considered the Tundra to be a possible candidate for a long-term test vehicle. Eventually, based on its ancient platform and tech, we opted out.

Remember, TFLtruck likes to bring in the newest, most exciting vehicles for long term evaluations and projects. We just can’t justify a 13 year-old design, which is what the Toyota Tundra essentially is.

All of us feel that the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra have not seen enough updates to match the revisions and updates of competitors like Nissan, Ford and FCA. Going on this information, we setup a “No, you’re wrong” episode regarding Toyota’s reluctance to update.

On one side, Andre feels that Toyota is smart by taking their time – making absolute sure that the tech is ready for a new truck before it’s introduced. Nathan, on the other hand, feels that Toyota is taking too long and will lose market share and consumer confidence by waiting.

Don’t worry – it’s just a debate.

Our two debate-monkeys are fully aware of Toyota’s outstanding reputation for reliability. Nathan and Andre also mention one of the most recent updates to the Toyota Tacoma and Tundra. Toyota introduced a Trail Edition of the Tacoma and Tundra.

Can’t use off-road trims? Alas, there is the 2021 Toyota Night Shade Editions – which give you lots of black trim. Regardless of the new trims available, they are minor updates at best.
