When is too much TOO much?

The Maximus 1000 Jeep Gladiator is a monster. According to Hennessey, the modified 6.2-liter, supercharged Hellcat engine they stuffed into a Gladiator now makes 1,000 horsepower and 933 lbs-feet of torque. Considering that the Gladiator’s stock Pentastar V6 made 285 and 260 lb-ft of torque, that’s three times the power.

Or is it?

If you look at the DynoJet readout pictured above, the Maximus 1000 Jeep Gladiator put down 692.1 hp and 629.8 pound-feet of torque – at the wheels. Remember, there is a ton of loss when you compare power numbers at the crank verses all of the loss you find at the wheels. That, along with heavy-duty driveshafts, the off-road tires, wheels and axles (among other components), makes the loss more noticeable.

This result means that it lost more than 30 percent of its power. Still, 691 horsepower is ridiculous. According to Hennessey, the Maximus 1000 Jeep Gladiator does 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
