2020 Ford Super Duty Can Tow a Staggering 37,000 Lbs – Here Are All the Diesel Specs (Breaking News)

Ford Tremor towing specs are here too!

The wait is over. We finally get to know the new 2020 Ford Super Duty diesel V8 power specs, and maximum payload and towing ratings. Ford is going for the jugular with as many class-leading specification as they possibly can.

Ford releases the payload/towing specs for all new Super Duty Tremor off-road truck, and many other ratings – but the following two numbers stand out above the rest.

The new 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo-diesel V8 I rated at 1,050 lb-ft of torque. A properly equipped 2020 F-450 diesel truck is rated to tow up to 37,000 lbs. These are just part of the truck’s best-in-class claims.

2020 Ford Super Duty

Before we dive into the new diesel specs, here is a brief look at all FOUR engine/transmission choices available in the new 2020 Super Duty. The 6.2-liter gas V8 carries over from the previous truck. It’s still rated at 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, and it’s still mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission OR an all-new 10-speed automatic.

There is much excitement surrounding the all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 engine. The engine is nicknames the “Godzilla”, and the rating is a class-leading 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an all-new 10-speed automatic.

  • GM’s new 6.6-liter gas V8 is rated at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque.
  • Ram’s existing 6.4-liter gas V8 is rated at 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, here are the specs on the newly updated 6.7-liter turbo-diesel V8. The engine has been enhanced with many new internal parts.

The 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 is rated at 475 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 1,050 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600 rpm. Both of these numbers are class-leading. The new diesel is also mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Compare this diesel’s output against competition.

  • Ram’s 6.7-liter Cummins I6 H.O.: 400 hp & 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
  • GM’s 6.6-liter Duramax V8: 445 hp & 910 lb-ft of torque.

2020 Ford Tremor

Now, how about the 2020 Super Duty Tremor off-road truck. Ford initially said that their goal was to make an off-road truck without losing much of the payload and towing capacities of a heavy duty. How does it compare against the Ram Power Wagon?

The Tremor package offers: a small suspension lift, 35-inch Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires, specially tuned suspension, crawl control, and more.

The Tremor has the following ratings:

  • Maximum conventional trailer towing: 15,000 lbs.
  • Maximum gooseneck trailer towing: 21,900 lbs (with a diesel)
  • Maximum payload: 4,210 lbs (with a 7.3L V8)

These are very impressing numbers for a truck with an off-road package. Traditionally, a more compliant off-road suspension and heavy hauling do not go together.

The new Ram Power Wagon is a supremely capable off-road truck that comes with a winch from the factory, but it’s maximum payload is 1,660 lbs and maximum towing is 10,620 lbs.

Maximum Towing

A properly configured 2020 F-450 one-ton 2WD truck is rated to tow up to 37,000 lbs when equipped with a diesel. A 2020 F-350 dually is rated to tow up to 35,750 lbs.

  • New 2019 Ram HD 3500 is rated up to 35,100 lbs.
  • New 2020 GM HD 3500 is rated up to 35,500 lbs.

Maximum 5th-wheel trailer towing capacity for the 2020 Super Duty is set at 32,500 lbs, although finding a 5th-wheel camping trailer and a 5th-wheel hitch to handle this weight is nearly impossible.

Maximum conventional towing on a 2020 Super Duty is set at 24,200 lbs.

Maximum payload is a class-leading 7,850 lbs.

  • The Ram HD max payload is: 7,680 lbs.
  • The GM HD max payload is: 7,442 lbs.
