GM’s new heavy duty trucks are currently class leading in terms of maximum towing ratings. The properly equipped 3500 dually 2WD Duramax diesel is rated to tow up to 35,500 lbs.

The engine under the hood is a 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 that is largely the same as before, but now has better cooling capacity. The rating is 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. However, the new element is the 10-speed Allison-branded automatic transmission. This transmission is only available with the diesel.

There is also a new 6.6L gas V8 that is mated to an updated 6-speed automatic.

While the base price for the new 2020 GMC HD trucks start in the $40,000 range, the top of the line crew cab 4×4 Denali dually does push the price close to $80,000. This price is highly competitive as fully loaded Ford F-350 and Ram 3500 trucks can push the price higher.

Here is our first hands on video with the trucks.
