Rivian recently answered a future owner question about the upcoming 2021 Rivian R1S electric SUV with some news. “We will offer multiple roof styles including electrochromic glass (which turns from opaque to transparent on demand), a fixed glass panel, a two-piece removable composite roof and a standard fixed roof.”

The R1S (and its brother – the R1T pickup truck) are planned to start production late in 2020, with customer deliveries in early 2021. The SUV and the truck you have seen around are early prototypes. The company is finalizing the production models, and they say they will look practically identical to the prototypes.

Potential battery size will be as big as 180 kWh with a range of up to 400 miles per charge. These trucks have four electric motors with true independent all-wheel capability. There is also a rumor that they will be able to turn in-place like a tank would.
