We finally get the official specs for the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel! The half-ton diesel truck competition is heating up with Ram declaring the highest torque number in the segment and monstrous maximum towing rating. It’s not all just about the engine, there is also a new diesel off-road truck coming. Check it out!
2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel
The latest 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 has a Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) design with four valves per cylinder. The official power rating is 260 hp @ 3,600 rpm and class-leading 480 lb-ft of torque @ 1,600 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Ram says that they are targeting class-leading fuel economy, although the actual number is not yet released. Since a 2WD base Ford F-150 diesel is rated at 30 MPG on the highway, this new EcoDiesel needs to at least tie this number.
The diesel engine is manufactured in Italy, but the truck is still assembled in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
The engine features a new water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger, updated Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), 16.0 to 1 compression ratio, and 29,000 psi fuel injection pressure. The compacted graphite iron engine block is topped with aluminum heads.

Towing
Ram announces the class-leading maximum towing rating for a half-ton diesel Ram 1500 EcoDiesel at 12,560 lbs. This is a crazy high number. The Ford F-150 Diesel is rated to tow 11,500 lbs. A Chevy/GMC 1500 Duramax is rated at a maximum 9,700 lbs.
2020 Ram Rebel Diesel
Perhaps the biggest news here is the availability of the new Ram Rebel with the new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. If you love overlanding and off-road adventure, this is very good news. The additional torque and driving range of the diesel Rebel will be a welcome thing.
Fuel economy and price will be announced later in the year, and the 2020 EcoDiesel is going on sale in Q4 2019 (by the end of the year).
