GM Canada Lets You Configure a 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 3.0L Diesel (News)

GM Canada is letting consumers configure a new 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 or a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel straight-6 engine option. U.S.-based Chevrolet or GMC sites are not allowing the new diesel engine option yet.

The new 3.0L diesel is available with shorter double-cab or full crew-cab configurations. It’s available with 2WD or 4×4, but it is limited to the following trim levels: LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country for the Silverado.

If you were hoping for an LT Trail Boss with a diesel, the Chevy Canada website is not allowing this configuration. We will have to assume a Trail Boss Diesel is out of the question for now.

The configurator still does not list the engine power output, capability, or price. Once the 3.0L diesel engine is selected, the price switches to “See Dealer For Pricing”. In other words, you should now be able to order a Diesel Silverado 1500 or Sierra 1500 in Canada.

The 3.0L Duramax Diesel is rumored to produce 282 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It is rumored to have a towing rating of 7,800 lbs and get 28 MPG on the highway.

We have reached out to Chevrolet to ask when the U.S.-spec 3.0L Diesel will be available for order and configuration. We will update the story as soon as we hear back.
