New report at GM Authority suggests that General Motors is working on a bigger displacement gas engine. Is an all-new or upgraded 8.1L V8 big block coming back?

Note: we reached out to Chevrolet for comment, and we will provide any updates to this post.

If you thought that the big gas V8 engine war is going to cool down for now, this new rumors pours more fuel on the fire with a V8 truck engine with displacement “over 8.0-liters”.

The big engine would slot in above the all-new 6.6L gas V8 engine that Chevrolet just recently unveiled. The 6.6L V8 is rated at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque.

The more powerful big displacement engine could see duty in bigger Silverado 4500, 5500, or 6500 trucks. It would also battle against the latest entries from Ford (the new 7.3L gas V8) and the latest entry from Ram (6.4L HEMI V8).

Check out the all-new 2020 Chevy Silverado heavy duty, and its new 6.6L small block V8 engine.

Here is a deeper dive into the design of the new 6.6L gas V8 engine.
