We know that Ram is planning to offer the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine in the new Ram 1500 trucks next year. Ram officially confirmed this. While we expected several Ram 1500 trim levels to offer an optional turbo-diesel, it was not clear whether it will be available in the off-road ready new generation Rebel.

The images and video you see here comes to us from instagram.com/o3djeeps This does not officially confirm that a turbo-diesel Rebel will be available for sale, but it is very intriguing to say the least.

Jeep announced that the next generation of the 3.0L EcoDiesel turbo-diesel V6 will be rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also coming to the Jeep Wrangler and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator according to the latest announcements from FCA.

Will Ram use the same spec of the updated 3.0L diesel in their half-ton trucks? We do not have a final word on this yet, but the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will have to compete directly against the Ford F-150 with the Power Stroke 3.0L diesel V6. Ford’s turbo-diesel is rated at 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep turbo-diesel power rating is already a little better than Ford’s.

We do not yet know the specs on the upcoming Chevy Silverado 1500 3.0L Duramax straight-six diesel.

Here is a spy video of several prototype trucks and also Jeep Wrangler JLs on the Hell’s Revenge trail in Moab. You can hear a distinctive diesel exhaust from this Rebel prototype.
