There are at least two choices for truck bed toppers out there. You can get a hard shell that is made from fiberglass, composite, or aluminum. These can be heavy and you are likely not to remove it once installed. On the other hand, you can get a soft folding topper from Bestop, which is easily foldable or removed whenever you need to carry tall items in your bed.
This is their latest design that improves on what was there before. It uses zippers and channel locks to secure the canvas panels. Once installed, the soft topper can be folded down or put back up in a matter of minutes.
The aluminum structure has been redesigned to better match the body lines of the truck (a Chevy Colorado in this case). The aluminum bows are also reshaped in order to prevent pinched fingers when folding.
The combination of zippers and channel locks that are similar to those on a Jeep Wrangler tops (Bestop also supplies premium soft tops for the new Wranglers). The new system is meant to allow for easier folding of the material than before.
There is a third brake light at the rear of the topper in order to comply with regulations.
