Could this prototype be the upcoming new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Trail Boss with a Duramax diesel engine? We have seen similar HD prototypes before, but this one sits just a little higher. Also, are those Rancho off-road shocks underneath, visible from the back? This prototype could definitely be the HD Z71 off-road package, but could Chevrolet give the truck a little (two inch) lift and bring to the Trail Boss status?

The front of this prototype do not show a hood air intake, but the large rear exhaust points in the direction of the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine. All information we have so far is that the current L5P diesel will carry own approximately 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. We do not have an indication whether the 6-speed Allison transmission will continue as well.
There is another report that says that Chevrolet is working on a new 6.6L gas V8 engine for the new heavy duty trucks that will replace the 6.0L Vortec V8.
Another interesting details is the rear bumper is sculpted up around the hitch, presumably enabling additional clearance and departure angle. The prototype also sports new vertical towing mirrors and running boards.
