2019 Ram Tradesman vs Ram Limited: Here’s What $22K Gets You

The 2019 Ram 1500 can of course be had in many different flavors, but just how different are they?

We had the chance to pour over a 2019 1500 Tradesman and a 2019 1500 Limited, to see how the low-end work truck stacks up against the top-end luxury model.

The Tradesman is fit with a 3.6-liter V6 and the eTorque 48V mild-hybrid setup under the hood, making 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. For suspension, the Trademan is fit with coil springs at all four corners, rather than the traditional leaf spring setup in the rear that most trucks use, and during our test the cheaper truck offered a ride that is comparable to the more expensive truck, a testament to the Ram’s suspension. Power feels pretty strong from the smaller engine as well, propelling the Tradesman from 0 to 60 mph in just 10 seconds.

Pricing for the Tradesman model that we tested comes in at around $45,000, still not a cheap vehicle, but much more affordable than the $66,000 Limited model.

Over on the Limited, we have four-corner air suspension and a big V8, the 5.7-liter HEMI fit with the eTorque system as well. This much larger powerplant makes 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, sent through an eight-speed automatic. That HEMI is good enough to get this truck up to 60 mph in just 8 seconds, a fairly quick time, but not all that much quicker than the V6. While power is up and the ride might be incrementally better with the air suspension, the real difference is in the interior.

Rather than the small info screen in the center stack, the Limited gets a massive 12-inch touchscreen, along with some luxurious feeling and looking materials inside.
