2019 Ford Ranger – first hands on

New 2019 Ford Ranger production starts at the storied Ford Michigan Assembly Plant (MAP) in Wayne, Michigan. Ford recently invested $850 million into retooling the plant to produce the Ranger and the upcoming Ford Bronco. Yep, approximately half of the production facility will be dedicated to the Bronco that starts production in 2020.

Another interesting note about the Michigan Assembly Plant is that it opened in 1957 to build Ford station wagons, but it also produced the original Ford Bronco starting in 1966. Bronco production ended in 1996, but the plant also produced the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator until 2008.

We know a lot about the upcoming 2019 Ranger already, with two significant exceptions. We know the power specifications, payload, and towing. We know the pricing structure, and the trim levels.

The engine is a 270 hp and 310 lb-ft 2.3L EcoBoost I4 that is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford rates the maximum towing capacity for the Ranger at 7,500 lbs.

Here is a detailed look at the Ford Ranger trim levels and pricing. It comes in XL, XLT, and Lariat trim levels. The base price for an extended cab with 2WD is $25,395 (including destination).
