This is an official first image of the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD 3500 and some information about the next generation of the truck approximately 18 months before it goes on sale in the fall of 2019. It’s not common for a manufacturer to release an image of an upcoming production vehicle with such advance notice. Chevrolet is letting us know that the 2020 Silverado HD truck will be joining the next generation 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado 4500, 5500, and 6500 medium duty trucks next year.
5. Available in Q3 2019
The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD trucks will go on sale in the third quarter of 2019. Chevy says prototypes of the new trucks will be testing in public starting now.
4. HD Z71 Off-Road
Yes, Chevrolet is continuing with the off-road version of the HD truck for 2020. What else will they have in store? Will an HD Trailboss be a reality? We will have to wait and see.
3. Towing Mirrors
Those are new towing mirrors. They have a single supporting bar, new running lights, and they are mounted lower on the truck’s body (similar to mirrors on the 2019 Silverado 1500).
2. Exterior Design
Check out the grille and what we can see from the headlights. The grille is very similar to the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 half-ton truck, but the lights appear much larger.
1. Hood Scoop / Duramax Diesel
There is a hood scoop on this truck. The 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 is likely to lurk within, but we do not know the specifications at this time.
Bonus: 2020 – Year of the HD Truck
Both Ram and Ford are also working on significantly updated trucks for the 2020 model year. Ram is moving production of the HD trucks to the Warren Truck Assembly plant in Michigan, and Ford is planning to update the Super Duty for 2020 as well.
