A recent report by Automotive News states that the 2019 Ram 1500 production has not reached full speed as originally planned. The company is investing more resources (approximately $300 million) in order to correct some issues and come up to full production capacity and meet the demand.

Production of the all-new Ram truck has begun in January 2018, and the first trucks began reaching dealerships in March. The report states that the Sterling Heights Assembly plant where the new truck is being built is producing around 1,000 trucks per day. The ultimate goal is around 1,400 trucks per day. In other words, the assembly line is running at approximately 60% capacity.

The plant is running two 10-hours shifts per day, seven days per week with no holidays to resolve the issues that are slowing down production. This AutoBlog report suggests that it’s costing the company additional $300 million to resolve problems and get the plant humming at full speed.

To complicate matters a bit more, the previous generation 2018 Ram 1500 regular cab will continue to be built at least for the remainder of this calendar year and maybe longer.  The all-new truck is only available in extended/four-door quad cab and full crew cab configurations.

Here is our first drive review of the new Ram 1500 half-ton truck.
