GMC told us the next chapter of the new Sierra story is coming, and here it is – the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. The “AT4” badge is a new designation for the most off-road worthy model in the lineup. What does it all mean? At a high level, think of the Sierra 1500 AT4 as GMC’s version of the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Trailboss.

The AT4 has the same two-inch suspension lift, off-road tuned suspension with Rancho chocks, and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires. The truck includes the necessary off-road-ready components: a 4×4 system with a low range transfer case, rear differential locker, and skid plates underneath. From there, the Sierra AT4 takes a more premium take on what and off-road/sport truck should be.

The truck features a blacked out look on the outside with dark chrome and red accents. The truck will be offered in a limited exterior color palette that is still being finalized, but it should include: black, white, and red themes.

The AT4 offers the Traction Select System that provides several drive modes, including: Off-Road, Sport, and Tow/Haul. There is a Surround Vision camera system, including a front camera, for a true 360-degree view of the terrain. Hill Descend control is also included.

If you were expecting to learn horsepower and torque numbers for the new GM engine lineup, these are not available yet. We asked several times. The new 5.3L V8 will be the standard engine for the Sierra 1500 AT4. Optionally, you will be able to choose from the 6.2L gas V8 or the 3.0L turbo-diesel I6 engines, both of which are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The AT4 will be available in two configurations: the crew cab with the short bed you see here or a double (extended) cab with a standard 6.5 foot bed. The short bed crew cab has an optional Carbon Pro bed that further reduces overall truck weight.

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 will go on sale in the fall of 2018. While pricing is not available yet, expect the AT4 model to reside below the luxurious Denali trim level in the lineup.
