Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, and Nissan Frontier Crush Last Year’s Sales Numbers (Report)

It’s no secret that the Toyota Tacoma is the best selling midsize pickup truck in the United States. Will Tacoma sales slow down due to increased competition? No! The Tacoma grew by a huge 33.6% in January 2018 over the same month last year. Toyota is supplementing the San Antonio manufacturing facility supply with production at the Baja plant. More choice in Tacomas means more sales.

Chevy Colorado is not far behind in terms of sales gains. The Colorado grew by 24.9% over the same period to a total of 8,011 units for the month. This volume is still less than half of the Tacomas sold last month. The aging Nissan Frontier is actually the most improved midsize pickup truck for the month with an increase of 53.0%.

The GMC Canyon improved at a slower pace (5.4%), but the Honda Ridgeline lost significant ground with a -21.4% result versus January 2017. Part of the reason for decline is that Honda is somewhat limited by the production capacity for the Ridgeline.
