This recall affects 64,901 Toyota Tundras and Sequoias built between August 2017 and February 2018.

The issue has to do with the potential for the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system to turn off unexpectedly. The government NHTSA agency report says “Electrical interference within the power supply circuit may cause the vehicle’s electronic stability control system to be deactivated.”

Toyota says that at least one warning light and an alert chime will sound if ESC is indeed disabled. This should make the driver aware of the event, although they did not initiate the ESC-off.

The solution is a software update that a dealership will perform free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified on or after March 12, 2018, so that the problem can be corrected.

NHTSA also suggests that: “Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota’s number for this recall is J0H.” No accidents have been linked to this problem at this time.
