Battle of The 6.2L V8s: Chevy Tahoe RST vs GMC Yukon XL Drag Race [Video]

Conveniently, the 2018 Chevy Tahoe RST and the 2018 GMC Yukon XL Denali are both at our offices at the same time. Interestingly, these vehicles both share a lot of components. Namely, their 6.2L V8 and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This should make for an interesting drag race (aka. simultaneous acceleration test).

Power

Given that the Tahoe RST is the performance variant of the Tahoe, you would expect the 6.2L V8 to make some serious power. It sure does; 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, of course powering all four wheels through that 10-speed transmission that was co-developed with Ford. GM has made my job of explaining engine stats easy because the Yukon XL Denali has the exact same motor, transmission, and power figures. Both trucks have a 3.23 rear axle gear ratio.

Drag Race Results

Despite having the same powerplant, the RST edged out the Yukon in our drag race. This is of course due to the weight difference between the two vehicles. The Yukon is the XL Denali version which has a longer wheelbase. The extra weight there is probably what slowed it down so much.

Of course be sure to let us know what you think of this drag race in the comments below! Also make sure to watch the whole video to see what separates these two trucks when it comes to amenities and features.
