1985 Chevy K10 project Big Green

If you have been following our “Big Green” project, you will know that we started with a mostly rust-free 1985 Chevy K10 4×4 and its 305 cu-in V8 mated to a heavy duty 4-speed manual transmission. It’s a regular cab long bed with a basic 4-inch lift and a lot of attitude.

We have towed with it on the Ike GauntletTM in the middle of a Colorado winter. We climbed a snowy Gold Mine Hill off-road trail, and compared the old-school 4×4 system against the new 2017 Colorado ZR2. However, the old V8 was a bit tired and the exhaust system was way too quiet.

We are fortunate to partner with Chevy Performance, MagnaFlow Exhaust, Summit Racing, Devon’s Car Care, and Ax and Allies and create a truck that has the power and the sound that go with the bold and classic looks.

The new engine is the 350 cu-in ZZ6 performance V8 that is rated at 405 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque with a carburetor. The original 4-speed manual, driveline, and suspension are still there. The truck is sporting a new exhaust system from MagnaFlow.

We originally looked forward to carbureted Big Green, but our demands for taking it on steep high altitude Rocky Mountain trails and traveling the country pointed us in the direction of fuel injection. We got the FiTech throttle-body fuel injection from Summit Racing, and we finally have all the pieces for complete install.

Will we get it running smoothly? We have fun with the install, and we hope you are having fun with us along the way.
