Spy photography evidence is mounting in favor of a specialized off-road version of the next generation 2020 Ford Ranger Raptor. Ranger Raptor is not an official name that Ford has confirmed, it’s simply a way for us to reference the off-road prepared prototypes that were caught testing in Australia and in Michigan.
The next Ford Ranger is expected to come to the United States market as a 2019 model year. As customary, a specialized off-road version of the truck may arrive the following year, although this is still just speculation. Ford has not confirmed a special version of the next Ranger. General information, specifications, and official images of the next-gen Ranger are sparse to non-existent.
It makes sense that Ford would develop and produce an off-road version of the Ranger midsize pickup. The 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 just recently went on sale. The ZR2 is equipped to handle a variety of terrain and has the aggressive off-road looks to match. There is also the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Nissan Frontier PRO-4X, and the potential of a Jeep Wrangler-based pickup truck (also spied during testing). There is plenty of competition here, and surely Ford wants to have an answer with a tough midsize off-roader.
Still, there are more questions than answers. Tell us what features would you like to see the most on a “Raptor” version of the upcoming Ford Ranger using the poll below. Please choose just one must-have feature that you would like to see.
