How will the 2017 Chevy Silverado HD 2500 WT handle the Gold Mine Hill trail? This is precisely what we wanted to find out. It’s not every day that we get to test a base heavy duty truck. This WT (Work Truck) version of the Silverado heavy duty looks a bit fancy from the outside thanks to an ‘HD Custom’ package that adds a lot of chrome, upgraded infotainment system with a backup camera, and 20-inch wheels among other bits. This package costs $4,300. Even so, the final M.S.R.P on this truck is $44,300. For this price, you get an extended cab HD truck with four front-opening doors, seating for six, a 4×4 system, and a lot of hauling and towing capability.

This truck has a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 under the hood that is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine has been in GM’s heavy duty trucks for a very long time. It’s rated at 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.

This is why we love work trucks, and we want to test more of them. They offer very good bang for your buck. Yes, $44,300 is a lot of money, but a fully-loaded Duramax diesel HD 4×4 crew cab truck can be pushing north of $70K.
