Will the Ford Expedition Ever Challenge the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban for SUV Sale Leadership? [November Sales]

Chevy Tahoe Ford Expedition
Chevy Tahoe vs. Ford Expedition

Just like the pickup trucks, full-size SUVs are hot right now. These are body-on-frame, truck-based SUVs with three rows of seats and enough towing capacity to embarrass any crossover.

The Chevrolet siblings, the Tahoe and Suburban, continued to lead the pack in a big way. Overall, Chevy and GMC SUVs appear to have an insurmountable lead over all other competitors. When combined, the four GM entries in this segment have sold 222,287 units so far this year (not counting Cadillac). Ford sold 54,576 Expeditions over the same period (not counting Lincoln). General Motors owns this segment, but the Ford Expedition is the best improved big SUV in 2016 Year-To-Date sales at 46.0%.

Ford is working on an all-new replacement for the Expedition as evidenced by these 2018 Expedition prototype spy images. Does Ford have a chance to fight for more market share in this segment? We will have to wait and see.

2017 Nissan Armada

The 2017 Nissan Armada, fresh off of a complete redesign, is best improved for the month of November. It is basically a budget-minded Infiniti QX80, which is a very good thing. Given some time, the new Armada may challenge the GMC Yukon XL for a spot on this list.
