Have you wondered what efficiency improvement the second generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and the 10-speed automatic transmission deliver to the 2017 F-150 lineup? We have wondered the same thing. We did an unscientific real-world comparison test and got a noticeable improvement (see video below).

The Gen2 turbo V6 makes 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It is the torquiest engine in the half-ton segment, and uses a dual fuel injection system (direct and port injection). It’s combined with a smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission.

Indeed, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just released their first rating for the 2017 F-150 4×4 and the truck sees 2 MPG improvement across the board. It is now 17 MPG in the city, 22 MPG on the highway, and 19 MPG combined.

Here is our first drive comparison between the Gen2 3.5L EcoBoost V6 powered 2017 F-150 and its 2016 counterpart.
