2017 Ford Super Duty F-350 Is a High-Tech Towing Wonder [Video]

Ford did not leave a rock unturned with the complete redesign of the 2017 Ford Super Duty. The truck uses a new fully-boxed high-strength steel frame. It has a new aluminum body and bed. It has upgraded engines, and a multitude of class-leading or class-exclusive claims and features.

The tweaked 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo-diesel now makes 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a upgraded heavy duty transmission and the rest of the driveline, which is built stronger to handle the newfound torque.

The Super Duty is stuffed full of latest technology, with the exception of built-in wi-fi connectivity. It has adaptive cruise control that works while towing on steep grades (as we found out when we took the 2017 F-450 on the 30,000 lbs Super Ike Gauntlet). It has lane departure warning system, adaptive or variable ratio steering, blind spot monitoring with trailer mode (trailers up to 33 feet in length), trailer tire pressure monitoring, six cameras that combine for a surround “bird’s eye” view and allow the driver to see behind the trailer, and more.

This truck has all the creature comforts of a luxury sedan, but with the added convenience of incorporating towing and trailers into one high-tech package.

Naturally, all this does not come cheap. This F-350 crew cab dually 4×4 Lariat with the Power Stroke stickers for $73,665. The turbo-diesel adds approximately $8,500 to the price. You can also get the 2017 Super Duty with the 6.2L gasoline V8 (which makes 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque).

This F-350 was barely taxed by the 10,000 lbs gooseneck trailer that Ford hitched up to it. I could tell the truck was accelerating a little slower with the trailer, but the ride, steering, handling, and stopping performance felt as if the truck was not pulling any extra weight.
