The Hyundai Santa Cruz concept has captivated many consumers who are looking for an alternative to vehicles like the Honda Ridgeline and other, larger pickup trucks. While some scoff at the need for such a pickup truck in our market, it turns out that the worldwide market is hoping to get one soon. Sadly, that might not be the case.
You can read about the Hyundai Santa Cruz concept’s details (here).
Recently, Car Advice Australia interviewed HMCA Chief Operating Officer Scott Grant. “It’s been advanced as we understand it,” Said Grant. “It won’t be anything this side of 2020” He went on to say, “We’ve got a planning horizon in place where they’re looking at the vehicle quite seriously, but there is yet to be a commitment to produce,” He was referring to a larger product that Hyundai builds overseas.
Not a thing about the Hyundai Santa Cruz, I’m sorry to say. It looks like we’ll have to wait, and wait, and wait. Bummer. Still, Hyundai just might be serious about building it – one day.
What do you think? Is it prudent to wait so long or, perhaps Hyundai should scrap the idea altogether?
One of the things I suspect Hyundai needs to see are sales totals for the Honda Ridgeline and how the reception for other pickup trucks goes in the near future.
