Nissan was the only full-size pickup truck manufacturer to not offer a regular or single cab pickup truck in the United States, that is until today. The 2017 Nissan Titan and Titan XD single cabs were unveiled to the world in Carmel, California.

The 2017 Titan light duty (aka. half-ton) and the 2017 Titan XD may appear nearly identical from a distance, they have different dimensions. They are built on unique frames and share very few parts. The two versions of the truck share wheelbase and width, but specs diverge from there. The Titan light duty is about 2.9 inches shorter in overall length and between 2.0 – 2.7 inches shorter in height (depending on model).

The half-ton Titan will be initially offered solely with the 5.6L gasoline V8. The 2017 version of the Endurance V8 motor is rated at 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque. The torque rating is curiously lower than the one in the 2016 Titan XD, which was rated at 401 lb-ft. A gasoline V6 engine will be offered at a later date, and no specs on this engine are yet released.

The 2017 Titan XD will continue to be offered with a choice of two engines: 5.0L Cummins turbo-diesel V8 and 5.6L gasoline V8. The 5.0L Cummins is still rated at 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque.

Maximum payload and towing ratings on the 2017 Nissan Titan XD Single cab 5.0L Cummins V8 are set at 12,640 lbs and 2,420 lbs respectively. This is understandably higher that the ratings on the Crew Cab. The Single cab’s capability is early 330 lbs higher than that of the heavier Crew cab.

The 2017 Titan Single cab half-ton is rated at 1,930 lbs of maximum payload and 9,730 lbs of maximum towing capacity. The truck’s GCWR is maxed out at 15,300 lbs.

The single cab Titan trucks will be available in dealerships in “late fall”, according to Nissan.
