The PRO-4X version of the all-new 2016 Nissan Titan XD is serious about off-road performance.
The truck is equipped with a 4×4 system, low-range transfer case, and a rear differential locker. Suspension is complete with Bilstein off-road shock absorbers. There is underbody protection and a hill-descent control system. Finally, General Grabber tires put the power to the ground. Power comes courtesy of the 5.0-liter V8 Cummins turbo-diesel that makes 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. This engine and the 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission are more than enough to propel the big truck up the steep Gold Mine Hill trail.
Gold Mine Hill Test:
We are fortunate to have our offices situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. This is an area of endless off-road trails, including Gold Mine Hill, which is a steep section of trail with a sharp 90-degree turn near the top. This is where an old gold mine used to be located. We use this hill to evaluate AWD crossovers at TFLcar.com and test 4×4 trucks for TFLtruck.com. The difficulty level goes up significantly in the winter when the trail is coated in ice and packed with snow.
