How does the 2016 Chevy Colorado turbo-diesel do at towing 5,650 pounds of Corvette Z06 and trailer? TFLtruck had to find out.

The Colorado midsize pickup truck is getting a new engine option for the 2016 model year. It is the 2.8-liter Duramax turbo-diesel that makes 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It’s backed up by a 6-speed automatic transmission, and the 4×4 versions of the Colorado Duramax are rated at a maximum towing weight of 7,600 lbs.

The Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon are the only ones in the segment with the diesel engine option. These smaller trucks are serious about towing. They are also equipped with an integrated trailer brake controller and an exhaust brake.

TFLtruck cannot wait to take these truck up and down the Ike Gauntlet extreme towing test.
