It was at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show where Mitsubishi strongly hinted that a modernized Mitsubishi Montero would return to the United States. You can read that story (here). During the press conference, Mitsubishi assured journalists that they intend to remain in the U.S. market. They pointed to stronger sales and a growing lineup. Oh, and possibly, maybe, something similar to the Mitsubishi Montero, which disappeared from the North American lineup about a decade ago.

In Chicago, the Mitsubishi GC-PHEV Concept debuted looking alot like this 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. Unlike the GC-PHEV, the Pajero Sport (or Mitsubishi Montero Sport in other markets) will have a diesel and a new seven-speed automatic transmission. The Mitsubishi GC-PHEV Concept is supposed to have a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that works in tandem with an electric motor combined with a plug-in hybrid system. Over 330 horsepower is estimated and it is supposed to feed power to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Confused?

There is nothing official about the Mitsubishi GC-PHEV or the Mitsubishi Montero coming to the United States. In fact: Mitsubishi has been very careful to say anything official about our market. They want us to wait until the 2015 Los Angeles International Auto Show (in November) before “something” debuts.

Now, why post this on TFLtruck rather than TFLcar?

This new 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is based on the Mitsubishi L200/Triton platform – which is a truck. In fact, it’s a pretty damn good pickup truck that’s sold over 1.3-million units worldwide so far. Add to that the fact that Mitsubishi is considering a version for North America and you can see why we added this to the truck page.

… besides, the Mitsubishi Montero was and always will be – cool.

More on whatever it may be soon.
