What If Pickups Had Sliding Doors? [Ask TFLtruck]

TFLtruck crew likes to get viewer and reader questions on any truck-related topic. Jeff sent in an interesting idea about adding a sliding doors to the rear of a pickup truck. Many current pickup trucks have moved to regular front-hinged doors on their “extended” cab configurations. Chevy calls it the Double Cab now. However, the new F-150 SuperCab continues to use the rear-hinged door that swings nearly 180 degrees. What if there was another solution to provide for easier egress?

I’ve been watching your posts for the past year since I first heard about the new Chevy Colorado.

Have you ever seen or could you poke/prod/suggest the folks that design these vehicles into replacing that rear hinged door with a slider akin to a mini-van? I would buy a full sized silverado quad/double cab in a heartbeat if the the rear door would just move out of the way and allow easy access for passengers and cargo. Please let me know what you think about this idea and lets push this into production!

Thanks,
Jeff

Check out a recent story on TFLcar.com about the Ford Explorer mobility vehicle that uses a “sliding” or “swinging” rear door. Perhaps, this could be a solution or does it take too much space and/or weigh too much?
