The 2016 Chevy Colorado turbo-diesel truck is rated to tow a maximum of 7,700 lbs in the 2WD configuration and 7,600 lbs with 4WD for $3,730 of additional cost.We get more information about the long-awaited “baby” Duramax. This rating is at the top of the class, but it’s not out of reach of the competition. The fully redesigned 2016 Toyota Tacoma V6 will likely have a tow rating very similar to this.

However, it will be hard to beat the 369 lb-ft of torque that is there at 2,000 rpm. The 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel produces 181 horsepower. These are SAE certified numbers. It’s mated to the 6-speed automatic transmission that also helps to reduce vibrations. The axle ration in the back is at 3.42, which should strike a good balance between performance, acceleration, and fuel economy. The engine uses a cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system to help it meet all the required emissions standards.

GM has not released fuel economy rating at this time, but hinted it should be above 27 MPG. Our guess is that a 2WD Colorado Duramax should be able to achieve a highway rating of 30 MPG or more.

There is a lot of good news about the Colorado turbo-diesel. The not so good one is the additional cost. Chevrolet said the this Duramax version will retail for $3,730 above a similarly equipped Colorado V6 model. This can push the crew cab 4×4 models beyond the $40,000 mark.
