The Hyundai Santa Cruz Crossover Pickup Concept surprised everyone when it made its debut Tuesday morning at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS 2015).  Offering a blend of crossover style, a small footprint and pickup utility, Hyundai says the Santa Cruz appeals to “urban adventurer” millennial lifestyles.

Surprising everyone as well was the choice in powertrain – a 2.0-L four-cylinder turbo diesel, which delivers 190 HP and a whopping 300 lb-ft of torque.  Channeled through Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel-drive-system, the Santa Cruz can achieve fuel economy in the high-30-MPG range.

For added cargo versatility and security, the Santa Cruz also features a tailgate extension and a retractable rigid tonneau cover.  When fully extended, the Hyundai Santa Cruz’s bed length is similar to that of a mid-size pickup.

Providing access to the three-across rear seat, the Santa Cruz offers rear-hinged rear doors which integrate with the front door design. The wheel arches, roof, and bed rails also offer tie-down cleats for securing cargo of all shapes and sizes.
