News of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma being (according to Toyota) “All-New” excites people around the world as the Toyota Tacoma IS one of the best selling pickup trucks on the planet. This photo is the first of (what should be) a multitude of teaser photos leading up to the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, MI. The 2015 NAIAS is where we will see the debut of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma.

Details are slim. We know that the exterior and interior are supposed to be updated with components that will make it more competitive with the award winning 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon. Toyota has been mum on any real details, save one: “Toyota’s rolling out the all-new 2016 Tacoma at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Jan. 12” – – Toyota USA

The image shows a stamped “Tacoma” in the tailgate. It appears that the rear bumper has an integrated trailer plug connections. Will the 2016 Tacoma have an integrated brake controller?

Rumored changes:

  • New exterior with updated, advance-designed pickup bed
  • New interior with modern comfort and convenience additions
  • More efficient running gear and increased green footprint
  • Suspension, wheel and tire packages

As for the wild speculation of diesels, hybrids, turbocharged four-cylinders and whatnot – none of us have witnessed anything that indicates Toyota is pushing for that much change. On the other hand, given the tea-leaves looking pretty positive for the mid-sized trucks from General Motors, the upcoming Nissan Frontier (with an optional diesel) and the next Honda Ridgeline coming soon – Toyota could pull something special out of the hat.

You can bet that TFLtruck will be right there, in the middle of the 2015 NAIAS covering this debut!

Speaking of the next batch of mid-sized trucks…
