What’s new about the 2015 Ford F-150 tailgate and the bed? That’s exactly what TFLtruck wanted to find out at the first-drive event of the new F-150.
First, all body components of the new truck are made from a high-grade aluminum. This includes the bed and the tailgate. Is it as strong as steel? Ford has done extensive testing and they say it’s as strong and often stronger. TFLtruck was not able to evaluate this yet, but we can learn more about the innovations.
Pickup trucks are gaining all the technology and advancements available on luxury cars. The new F-150 has a centrally locking tailgate with remote release. Just press the button on the key fob and the tailgate will unlock and slowly open. That’s useful for work and to impress your neighbor.
Ford also improved bed tie-downs with the new Box Link system. These are large mounting plates with removable cleats or other attachment points. These can also hold loading ramps or other accessories. LED lights are also a nice touch.
Ford also enhanced the tailgate step system for a cleaner design.
