August 2014 was a high-volume sales month across the board as it’s usually the case. Although Ford F-Series sold 68,109 trucks during the month, the result was -4.2% lower than August of last year. Ford can still claim the F-Series as the best selling pickup in the land, but the gap to the competition is closing quickly. Ram trucks sold 43,775 units and grew a huge 33.0% over last year. It’s slowly creeping up on the second-lace Chevy Silverado. The Chevy also had a good month with 12.8% growth. Combine this with the 10.2% increase for the GMC Sierra and the GM twins are within around 35,000 of the F-Series for the year-to-date sales numbers.
Nissan Frontier continues a good year. It’s up 16.8% year-to-date. Nissan Titan is holding on for the next generation truck, which is supposed to be revealed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January and go on sale about a year later.
