2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro vs. Ford Raptor

Does the Ford Raptor stand in a class of its own, or are there any serious contenders?  The 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro provides an answer, but is it an answer to the same question?  TFLtruck takes both trucks high in the Rocky Mountains to learn more about the off-road focused Tundra and compare to the Raptor.

Turns out the TRD Pro Tundra is not that much different from the truck it’s based on.  The 5.7L iForce V8 and the 6-speed automatic transmission remain intact.  There are still 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque on tap.  It does breathe out via a dual TRD exhaust system that sounds satisfying, but not too loud.  The specially tuned Bilstein shocks and revised suspension offer a little (one to two inches) more of ground clearance and wheel travel.  The Tundra is still easy to drive and is more maneuverable on a tighter off-road trail than the beastly Raptor.  However, the Raptor still soaks up the terrain a little better and offers more comfort.

Pricing, fuel economy, and some specifications of the production Tundra TRD Pro have not yet been released.  We do not have the precise payload, towing, and approach/departure angle numbers.  We can estimate that the specifications will be close to the regular Tundra.  And the Tundra is rated to haul and tow more weight than the Raptor.
