2014 Ram Power Wagon – Muddy Quick Spin [Video]

2014 ram power wagon

The 2014 Ram Power Wagon is thoroughly updated and ready to tackle the toughest of terrains.  It benefits from many upgrades available on all 2014 Ram heavy duty trucks.  It gets the power from the big 6.4L HEMI V8 with 410 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 429 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm.  The 66RFE 6-speed automatic does the shifting.

There is more than enough torque down low, but any off-road focused vehicle prides itself on the underpinnings and Ram is no different.  The beefy axles (9.25 in front and 11 in rear) have electric differential locks and electronically disconnecting front stabilizer bar.  The front rides on three-link coil suspension, while the rear is a flexible five-link on coils.  Track bars are front and rear ensure the power is delivered effectively to the ground.  The BW 44-47 transfer case is manually shifted and has a 2.64 low range ratio.  When combined with the 4.10 axle gears, the crawl ratio is a respectable 34.96.

The result is a massive truck with 14.3 inches of running ground clearance and 30 inches of water fording depth.  This crew cab is large: 79.1 inches of width and 81 inches of total height.  As Nathan and Roman found out, you must be mindful of the trails you tackle in your Power Wagon.  Where rocks or mud will not stop this Ram, the narrow passages or low hanging tree branches might.

There is no doubt that the Power Wagon is capable off-road, but the coil suspension and all the heavy duty components limit the total payload to 1,430 pounds.  You can still hitch up to 10,750 pounds of trailer, but you need to plan carefully as to not to exceed the payload capacity.  You can bring a fairly large recreational trailer and five of your friends.

The 2014 Ram Power Wagon is available in nine exterior and two interior color combinations.  It’s available at your local Ram dealer now with a starting price of $49,145.  You can add a few options that include navigation system and power folding mirrors that will push the price well into the $50K range.
