2014 Nissan Titan Pro4X Colorado Off-Road Review

2014-Nissan-Titan-Specs
Off road, the Nissan Titan Pro4X makes the most sense. It’s rugged with a fully boxed frame and has Rancho shocks, BFG Rugged Trail tires, 10.7-inches of ground clearance, electronic locking rear differential, real metal skid-plates and a nearly ideal size. You see, the Nissan Titan is no longer titanic – it’s one of the smallest full-sized trucks on sale in the United States – and that’s a good thing.

There was a debate among some truck lovers as to why the Nissan Titan has yet to show up on our Truck channel. The answer was simple – it’s about to be completely updated. You can read about Nissan’s new Cummins diesel (here). But it’s more than just a new engine – we’re talking about a new truck with several variants. Still, the current Nissan Titan still has something to offer buyers – especially in its Pro4X guise.

“Like to go off-off-off the beaten path? The Titan Pro-4X® comes with an electronic locking rear differential, Rancho® off-road shocks, and underbody skid plates. Tack on the Pro-4X® Premium Utility package and you’ll get Nissan’s first-in-class Utili-track® Channel system, a sprayed-on bedliner, and a bed-mounted 120-volt outlet for power when you need it. Inside, the pedals are power-adjustable for comfort and a tactile response. There’s also a Rockford Fosgate® audio system, and a HomeLink® Universal Transceiver to control garage doors, security gates and house lighting.” – – Nissan USA

She may be old (about 10 years now) but she still likes to get muddy.

We took it off the beaten path to the Switzerland Trail near Nederland, Colorado. Normally, the trails we blazed would be slightly challenging for a regular truck – but the Nissan Titan Pro4X simply laughed-off every obstacle. It helped that its 317 horsepower, 5.6-liter V8 cranks out 385 lbs-feet of torque, because you could feel it. Despite the cramped confines of the king-cab setup; externally, it was a fantastic overall size for busting trails. Sure, the bigger crew-cab makes more sense for passengers – the smaller king-cab is awesome for drivers.

I’ll say it now: next to the Ford F150 Raptor and Ram PowerWagon, the Nissan Titan Pro4X is one of the most capable factory-built off road pickup trucks.
