GM announced the MPG numbers for the 2014 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 available in the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado High Country and 2014 GMC Sierra Denali. The 2WD version is 15 MPG city / 21 MPG highway. The 4WD trucks are a little lower at 14/20 MPG. These numbers are good considering that the big 6.2-liter produces 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
This EcoTec3 motor also uses direct fuel injection and cylinder deactivation to help it get the respectable 21 MPG on the highway. By comparison, Ford’s older design 6.2L V8 is EPA rated at 13/18 MPG for the 2WD F-150. Now, GM should offer the big V8 in more Silverado and Sierra trim levels. Perhaps event a regular cab short bed Silverado SS? GM, are you listening?
