There’s a towing war going on between light duty truck manufacturers and Ram has just shot the next salvo with their new 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

The new ( and currently only light duty diesel) will tow a maximum of 9,200 pounds according to Ram.

“There was more towing capacity in the V-6 Ram 1500 but we needed to upgrade the transmission to hold the truck and trailer when parked on steep grades,” said Mike Cairns – Chief Engineer, Ram Truck. “Now that we’re building the transmissions ourselves, the improvements are included in the new assembly. “

TFLtruck recently had the opportunity to be at the Michigan debut of the the new  2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and we came away impressed by the truck.

The 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel’s max towing capacity is just 50 pounds shy of the 2013  5.7-liter V8 Ram 1500.

Ram has not released MPG numbers for the diesel engine yet, but it says that the Ram 1500 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel will exceed the 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine which is currently rated at 25 MPG.
