One of the biggest buzzes in the automotive and off-roading communities over the last year has been the potential for a Jeep Wrangler-based pickup. Last week, we brought you a story that such a vehicle is, in fact, confirmed for production. Chief Jeep Designer Mark Allen spilled the beans himself:

“We’ve hidden some hints about what’s going on behind the scenes, right in front of you… we’ve never done a crew cab pickup [concept] before. Hint, hint,” he said, adding “there may be things you see on the Crew Chief that you might see on that truck.”

This is good news, as the Crew Chief 715 shown here has all the styling we’d hope to see in a production version pickup. Don’t expect the 40-inch military-style tires with 20-inch beadlock wheels or the front grille from the Crew Chief 715, but the 5-foot bed and 3.6L Pentastar V6 are likely good indications of what’s to come. The concept vehicle in front of you comes with an on board air system with a hard-mounted quick disconnect fitting that would allow drivers to air up those massive tires after a day on the trails. Also found on the Crew Chief 715 concept are Dana 60 axles front and rear, a 139-inch wheelbase, 4-inch lift kit, cold-air intake, modified exhaust, and aircraft-style control switches. My favorite part? The custom wood floor found in the steel box.
