The 2014 Ford F-150 Raptor was the last light duty Ford pickup truck that you could buy with the big 6.2L V8. Ford says that the V8 rumble does not matter as much today because the new 2016 Ford F-150 3.5L V6 comes with not one, but two turbos. It’s just as powerful and less thirsty. In fact, not only is the 3.5L V6 partially made of aluminum, but the entire cab and the bed are also made of aluminum.
Is Ford correct?
We decided to have a bit of old fashioned drag racing fun to see which truck (read engine) is faster. But as always there’s a catch.
TFLtruck’s test track is at one mile above sea level which means that our air is less dense with more “me” room between the O2s. In the real world, this means the Ford 6.2L V8 is less powerful.
Why?
The twin turbos of the 2016 Ford F-150 help make up for the lower Colorado air density. The 2016 truck has a serious advantage even though it has less horsepower and less torque.

And yes before you swarm the comments section, this is by no means a scientific test. There are more variables than mosquitos in Florida, but the results are interesting never-the-less. It would also be fun to try this drag race again at sea level. We’re betting the results would be very different.
BTW: Coming very soon to TFLtruck, Nathan and Andre mashup this very same F-150 with a Ford Explorer both with the same 3.5L Ecoboost engine. However, his time they drag race at the local drag strip. Which one is the faster: the truck or the SUV?
