The Ram pickup truck lineup remains largely unchanged for the 2018 model year with the following notable exceptions. The 2018 Ram 1500 and HD trucks get a new top-of-the-line luxury model, the Limited Tungsten Edition. The Ram 3500 HD escalates the torque wars with a class-leading 6.7L high-output Cummins I6 turbo-diesel. The rest of the Ram lineup and special editions trucks continue on.

Note: Ram is expected to unveil the next generation 2019 Ram 1500 at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS 2018) in January.

The base 2018 Ram 1500 Tradesman 2WD starts at $27,095 before destination charges. You will still find all of the Ram trim levels and special editions as with the 2017 model year: Tradesman, Express, Lone Star, Big Horn, Sport, Night, Harvest, Lone Star Silver, Laramie, Rebel, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.

Ram says that the engine and transmission options remain the same. This includes the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 with the 8-speed automatic transmission. If you are looking at the Ram’s website configurator for the 2018 Ram 1500, you may not see an option for the 3.0L EcoDiesel. We contacted Ram about this, and they say that not all build configurations have been finalized and to stay tuned. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the 5.7L HEMI V8 are still available. The HD trucks continue with the HEMI gas V8 and Cummins turbo-diesel engine options.

The Tungsten package is available across the half-ton, 3/4-ton, and 1-ton Ram trucks. You can now configure the 2018 Tungsten trucks on Ram’s website. The final suggested retail price is $81,055 (after a $2,000 offer).

    2018 Ram HD 930 Lb-Ft Diesel

Ram keeps the heavy duty truck torque wars alive and well with a power rating increase for the 2018 model year. The update is only available for the high-output 6.7L Cummins I6 that is solely available in the 3500-series trucks with the 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission. The engine is now rated at 385 hp @ 2,800 rpm and a class-leading 930 lb-ft of torque @ 1,700 rpm.

Along with the higher torque rating, Ram and Mopar are now offering a redesigned 5th-wheel hitch for the Ram HD trucks that is rated at 30,000 lbs. This covers some of the biggest and most luxurious 5th-wheel camping trailers.

Ram is still offering three 6.7L Cummins power options. The first is the 350 hp and 660 lb-ft engine for the Ram HD 2500 with the manual 6-speed transmission. Next is the 370 hp and 800 lb-ft version that is paired to Ram’s 68RFE 6-speed automatic. Finally, is the high-output version, which can only be had in the 1-ton Ram trucks.

    1. A suede headliner, nicer leather seats, and some exterior trim don’t seem worth the extra cost. Perhaps there is more? I realize this is just marking time until the next gen arrives, but presumably this “Tungsten” edition will continue…

    2. The new packages are cool and all, but I think the only thing that is different with all of this is the Tungsten, which is basically a Sport wrapped in the limited. That is all it is. The only thing that I like that Ram came out with is the Harvest, which is exactly like the Outdoorsman, just with a different name. Is it cool, sure. I just wish that they came out with the Outdoorsman again. I liked that trim model.

    3. I really wish they would do more minor updating to their feature content. This whole color and packaging game Ram like to play with the same truck year in year out, seems a bit lacking to me.
I love Ram trucks and own a 15 Ram 2500, along with some others in the business fleet. They are really good trucks, just wish they would take a more feature based approach to their updates.

Things I want on my next personal truck, are things like a surround view camera system with a large high resolution screen. That is functional update that would make me consider upgrading to a new truck.

Based on what they are offering for 2018 I would be just be buying the exact truck I already bough in 2015 that I could have bought in late 2013 as a 2014 model.

Back then it was at the top in terms functional tech and feature content.

Its fallen to sort of mid or lower pack now only IMO ahead of GM and maybe Toyota, the 18 Tundra to me in some ways now has passed the GM truck in some areas but not quite made it to the Ram level in others. Ford and Nissan seem to be holding the top spots in truck tech today with Ford being #1 in available Tech content.

    4. only way dodge is ahead of gm is for repairs! 2017 gmc sierra denali is way nicer than the ram limited, outdated and needs a new look! you can buy a 2014 that looks the same as the 2018 comming out,can you say that about gm?

      1. You’re crazy. GM’s have far more problems. Interior is not even close to the interior of a Ram limited and the the new tungsten addition. I’ve been in Denali’s, not impressed at all, maybe softer seats. That’s it!

    5. So ram is increasing diesel torque to 930 ft lbs. Has anyone heard any rumors about what gm or ford numbers are going to be for 2018? I’m already looking forward to the next ike gauntlet Tim’s.

    6. I want to see Ram do some bigger updates than this! I wanna see them make the Rebel TRX or at least do something to the Hemi engine to increase it’s power. Ram’s got that Mopar backing to their name…So I wanna see them do some Mopar modifications to their 5.7 Hemi. They do have a chance at beating GM in sales and claiming the No. 2 spot, but they just don’t for some reason. If only they would build a half ton engine to match the 6.2 with improved reliability and quality, they could take that spot away from GM.
