What are the changes and updates for the 2018 Chevy Silverado truck lineup? Chevrolet keeps the powertrains the same, but adds technology features and many special editions.

One very interesting piece of news is that Chevy is expanding the availability of the Silverado 1500 eAssist (mild gas/electric hybrid) nationwide. You will be able to purchase the Silverado 1500 5.3L V8 eAssist across the country in LTZ and LT trims. Two-wheel-drive version of the eAssist truck is rated at 18 MPG city and 24 MPG on the highway. The hybrid is also available in 4×4 with a rating of 16 MPG city and 21 MPG on the highway.

Check out this video for more specifications and information on GM’s pickup truck eAssist system.

Chevy lists the 2018 Silverado 1500 maximum towing rating at 12,500 lbs (crew cab 2WD). The maximum payload rating is 2,250 lbs for the double cab 2WD.

Here are some of the other 2018 Silverado updates:

  • Custom edition is now offered on the crew cab
  • Additional Exterior colors: Cajun Red Metallic and Havana Metallic
  • Tire pressure monitor system now includes tire fill alert
  • Rear-vision camera now standard on all models
  • MyLink 7-inch radio system now standard on WT model

There are no fewer than 10 customized special editions and appearance packages available on the Silverado 1500: Black Out, Special Ops, Rally 1, Rally 2, Redline, Midnight, Realtree, High Desert, All Star, and Texas editions.

The High Desert package offers the in-bed cargo/storage boxes, and it is now available in LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. Indeed, you can get a Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country High Desert that offers all the luxury of a High Country and the utility of the High Desert package.

It’s great to see the work truck WT model being offered with the 7-inch MyLink infotainment system. We would like to try the handy Tire Fill Alert system. Checking tire pressures is very important when towing heavy loads, and the alert system should be very useful for those times when the tires are a little low on air.
