Ram 1500 Diesel Pickup Trucks Resume Production According to Published Reports

2017 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4×4 EcoDiesel

The Ram 1500 with the 3.0L diesel engine is back in production.  Automotive News, reports today that diesel test mules have been spotted rolling around Michigan with only a Diesel badge on them, no more EcoDiesel.

According to Automotive News, employees at the FCA Warren Truck Plant have started assembling diesel 1500 Ram trucks again although no resolution has been announced by either FCA or regulators in regards to alleged high emissions.

On the May 19th, FCA applied for certifications from regulators to reinstate its V6 diesel (which was available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee too). According to reports, FCA/Ram expects to get its Ram 1500 diesel rectified soon.

This comes shortly after the EPA and California Air Resources Board sighted irregularities with the engine’s software. Shortly after that story broke, the Department of Justice’s Environmental and Natural Resources Division said they had evidence of undeclared diesel emissions software and filed a civil suit. A few years ago, similar allegations (which were eventually proven true) severely hurt Volkswagen.

The FCA 3-lter V6 diesel has proven popular with both Ram 1500 diesel trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokees too.

At this time we do not know if or when the newly produced diesel Rams will be arriving at dealers, but be sure to stay tuned for more information!
