Ford has released the all new 2018 Ford Expedition FX4 which they claim to be their most off-road capable Expedition yet. The FX4 package includes a number of modifications which are designed to help the Expedition perform well off-road.

The FX4 package has a long list of upgrades. First is the electronic limited slip differential, which can allocate power to whichever wheel has more grip, providing better traction. Included with this differential is a 3.73:1 ratio axle to help improve towing performance. The FX4 package also gets you a new set of shocks plus some all terrain tires which sit on 18 inch metallic painted aluminum wheels, all of which helps provide traction off-road.

Ford have fit the FX4 with seven different kinds of skid plates on the underside of the vehicle in order to protect the car from harsh obstacles, also improving departure and approach angles. Finally, the FX4 package features chrome running boards and unique FX4 badging, plus some rubber floor liners to complete the package.

Powering the 2018 Ford Expedition FX4 is a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 which makes 375 Horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. All this power is connected to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. This, together with the 3.73 ratio axle allow for a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 lbs, best in its class.

If you step up to the 2018 Expedition Platinum, the power rating for the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 will go up to 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, if you use 93-octane fuel.
