Which heavy duty gas-powered pickup truck is faster: a 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD with a 6.0L Vortec V8 or a 2017 Ram HD 2500 with a 6.4L HEMI V8? We are excited to be testing these work trucks. The Silverado WT is a double cab short bed 4×4 with an HD Custom package. The Ram is a Tradesman regular cab long bed 2WD with a chrome package.
The 6.0L Vortec V8 in the Silverado is rated at 360 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. The 6.4L HEMI V8 in the Ram claims a much higher 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.
This particular Silverado is about 600 lbs heavier than the Ram. How to handle this weight differential and keep the acceleration test as fair as possible? We found a way to distribute the weight.
